In her mid-70s, Suzanne* was living in the family home of 50 years and tiring of its endless maintenance and upkeep. Chasing up tradespeople and gardeners to carry out jobs around her home was a feat in itself!
She made the decision to sell and rightsize to a retirement village. With her adult children living in regional NSW, she quickly found she needed help to carry out her decision.
A start was attempted with Suzanne contacting all her local real estate agents. On finding them too pushy, she keenly felt she needed an objective third party to help her with decision making. One of her adult children suggested approaching SPACE. Property Advocates.
The care solution
Understanding that moving to the right retirement village, namely one meeting Suzanne’s needs is not necessarily straightforward, SPACE. promptly introduced Suzanne to DR Care Solutions.
DR Care Solutions assisted Suzanne with her choice of retirement village by drawing up her own personal Life Plan™ to ensure her next move met her needs, wants and wishes.
A suitable retirement village was found (within her budget and desired location) and a plan to move to the retirement village, timed with the sale of her home, was developed.
The care funding solution
In the meantime, SPACE. considered the initial valuation of the two-bedroom detached home in an outer leafy Sydney suburb. They advised that a higher price could be achieved with some minor renovation. Suzanne agreed to the works, and SPACE. took control of what needed to be done.
Each room featured a different bold colour, the ceiling and walls were water damaged, and the garden had grown wild. Tradespeople were bought in by SPACE. to repaint the interior rooms, pressure hose the external walls, landscape the garden, and style the home’s interior.
SPACE. then helped Suzanne choose an agent and clear the house of a lifetime of possessions all of which were either disposed of, recycled, gifted to family, sold or stored for her new abode.
The outcome
To allow for open house inspections to a styled property, an earlier move to the retirement village was negotiated for Suzanne with SPACE. coordinating the move.
The home sold for 15% more than its initial valuation leaving Suzanne with funds for the move to the retirement home and extra for some luxury travel!
