How Do You Afford the Aged Care of Your Choice?

Often families ask us, "How does a loved one afford an Aged Care Facility of their choice in the area they desire?"
Do they really need to sell the family home?
Most older Australian’s really don’t want to leave the home. Psychologically, many feel they will ‘lose their purpose’ if they are made to move into residential aged care.
Residential Aged Care Facilities may not always be the RIGHT care option for a particular client. It is recommended that they have an independent, impartial care needs assessment by a quality Aged Care Consultant to determine the right care options and what is right for the individual (within their cognitive, physical, spiritual care needs, wants and wishes) in additional to their financial capacity to pay.
They ask us at DR Care Solutions, “How can they remain at home, safely and be able to afford quality in home care?” (in addition to any Government Subsidies that may or may not be available).
We discuss with the family whether they have considered ‘equity release’ from the family home to enable the ageing Australian choice; either to move into their preferred Aged Care facility in a location they desire (regardless of the amount of the Refundable Accommodation Deposit) or remain at home with quality in home care.
When choosing to go down the path of Equity Release, it is wise to ensure you seek professional advice from a Specialist Aged Care Finance Broker.
How do you choose a Specialist Aged Care Finance Broker?
- Ask how long they’ve been in business and what qualifications the consultants have?
- How many Aged Care clients have they assisted with equity release?
- Are they Aged Care accredited (through an accreditation body like Aged Care Steps)?
- Are they a member of the FBAA (The Leading Professional Association for Finance and Mortgage Brokers)?
- Are they a member of the MFAA (Mortgage & Finance Association of Australia)?
DR Care Solutions works with quality specialist Aged Care Finance Brokers to ensure there are enough funds available to source the RIGHT care for our ageing Australians, whether it be in the home or in a Residential Aged Care Facility.
