Earlier this month[1] DR Care Solutions, in collaboration with SPACE. Property Advocates[2], released The Spring Clean Rightsize Guide.

Being ready for anything
Given our experience in assisting older Australians, we firmly believe that a yearly clean up, clear out and ‘ready to sell’ project is not only good for your health, it brings peace of mind to you and to those loved ones who may be left with the responsibility!
Unfortunately, clients Kiera* and Stuart* were not ready to deal with Stuart’s sudden life-changing medical diagnosis. To overcome the mounting crisis, they called on DR Care Solutions and SPACE. Property Advocates to do the work, outlined in the guide, for them.
Here’s their story.
The problem
A call for help was received from Kiera, a partner in a national professional services firm, mother of an HSC student, and wife of Stuart who had just been diagnosed with Guillain-Barré syndrome. Quickly deteriorating with paralysis taking hold, Stuart needed 24/7 care. He was in hospital and had been for a few weeks prior to our engagement.
Kiera is in her late 50s and Stuart his late 60s.
The care solution
DR Care Solutions came in to discuss with Stuart his care needs, wants and wishes, drew up a comprehensive Life Plan™, and promptly acted on his decision to move to residential care.
After identifying four suitable facilities, DR Care Solutions visited all four with Kiera and one meeting Stuart’s needs, wants and wishes was chosen.
Within three weeks of engagement, DR Care Solutions helped move Stuart into residential care.
The care funding solution
SPACE. came in to help Kiera and Stuart sell an investment property and maximise that sale to fund Stuart’s residential care.
Kiera and Stuart had started a renovation project on the property but were unable to finish it due to Stuart’s ill-health.
SPACE. took over:

Obtaining quotes and supervising works for landscaping, painting, fencing, pressure cleaning, a garage installation, internal cleaning, lighting, and property styling.

Sourcing proposals from local real estate agents to sell the property, presenting the proposals to Kiera and Stuart, and then working with the chosen agent on the campaign, keeping Kiera and Stuart informed throughout the process.
The property went to auction, with SPACE. attending and assisting with negotiations. A great sale price was achieved on the day in a difficult market. Kiera and Stuart were extremely happy with the result and the move to residential care was funded.
Within three months of engagement, SPACE. helped Kiera and Stuart maximise the price of their property and fund Stuart’s move to residential care.
The outcome
Life can turn on a dime with an unexpected medical diagnosis or life event. This certainly was the case for Stuart on being diagnosed with an auto-immune condition that paralysed him within a week.
While in residential care his condition has now stabilised and with rehabilitation in train there’s a good chance he may be able to return home. In the meantime, all has settled on the home front with Kiera back at work and their son completing his final year of high school.
