Five years ago, workplace advisory group and DR Care Solutions strategic partner, Parents at Work, led the charitable initiative of surveying more than 6,000 parents and carers and producing the augural 2019 National Working Families Survey Report[1].

The report shares the stress felt by survey participants, with 62% reporting difficulties with looking after their own mental and physical health as they attempt to manage competing work and family/carer responsibilities[1].

In response, UNICEF Australia and Parents at Work released National Work + Family Standards[2] and Family Friendly Workplaces[3] in May 2021.

Workplace Minimum Standards

National Work + Family Standards
sets out the minimum and best practice policies and practices employers can invest in to create a family-friendly workplace culture.

Here we’re speaking of the availability of flexible work, parental leave, carers leave, and workplace policies protecting the mental and physical wellbeing of parents and carers.

Family Friendly Workplaces™

Employers can then put themselves to the test by benchmarking themselves, free of charge, against those standards.

There’s the option to obtain certification as a ‘Family Inclusive Workplace’ where Family Friendly Workplaces™ consultants guide employers through the certification process for a fee.

Around 118 employers have obtained certification!

If you are one of the 25% of employees[1] wishing to change workplaces for lack of employer understanding of your carer situation, consider applying for roles with these certified ‘Family Inclusive Workplaces’.[4]
