Retirement Living Concierge Service
Our Goal
With so much choice on where to live on retirement, we offer our extensive knowledge and role as an independent sounding board. Our goal is to help you make the choice that is right for you.
Whether your ideal retirement living situation is a retirement community, right-sizing to a property that meets your needs and wants, or down-sizing to free up capital and travel, we can assist you to make and carry out the right choice for you.
Our Process
We provide a transparent, impartial, professional and compassionate service to our clients.
Having assisted clients for more than three and a half decades, we have created a useful process for decision making. It’s called the "5 Easy Steps 4 Care©". These are the steps we take to help you make the right decision on living arrangements that meet your current and likely future care needs.
For thoroughness, we liaise with your “support team”, be they your family, guardian, power of attorney, financial planner, accountant, lawyer, estate planner, GP or social worker, to ensure all your needs are met.
Our five-step process involves:
-
Establishing your needs: We sit with you to discuss your needs and wants. Members of your support team are included in the discussion as your decision to relocate will involve personal considerations around proximity to family and making financial commitments. If there are any differences of opinion, we are here to help resolve them.
-
In-Home Assessment: We can thoroughly weigh up with you, as an independent sounding board, the “pros and cons” of remaining in your current home. This may involve recommending home modifications to allow you to safely age in place and seek the solution of future in-home care. If ageing in place is not an option we will document why.
-
Developing a Life PlanTM: Having established your needs and wants, we will provide you with a comprehensive Life PlanTM. The plan details our recommendations for retirement living tailored to your needs and wants. The Life PlanTM will include helpful resources such as independent guides on retirement living, how to finance it and contractual considerations.
-
Selecting the appropriate option: If your preference is to move to a retirement community, we will recommend up to five quality residential facilities based on your needs and wants. These recommendations will be drawn from DR Care Solutions research and knowledge on retirement communities. Many of these villages and apartment complexes have been personally visited and vetted by Danielle.
Danielle will arrange a personal tour of each community and will join you, and your family or support team member, on that tour.
To assist with making your choice, we will brief the manager of the retirement community on the needs and wants expressed in your Life PlanTM to ensure they are met.
If a retirement community is chosen, we always recommend obtaining quality legal advice before entering into a retirement community contract. It is important that you, and your adult children, understand the structure of retirement community contracts and how deferred management fees operate and any other fees that are applicable.
-
Follow-up and Reviews: Our service does not end with making your choice on retirement living. We remain in contact to monitor that your needs are being met and your support team are happy with your living arrangement. If you require in-home care in your new situation at a later date, we can arrange that care support.
Rightsizing Living Arrangements
Ted and Jen lived in their own home, a two-storey townhouse. Both had health issues but were cognitively fine, and Ted was susceptible to falls. They knew it was time to rightsize their living arrangements, but weren't sure of their options nor where to begin their search. Their seven adult children were keen to see them settled within 12 months.
